Praise, a Mental Health Day

Good ole mental health days.

book and coffee on bed, places aesthetically

You know the days, when you play hooky from either school or work, spend the day resting in bed while you watch your favorite movies and snack on all the staple goodies. Or maybe you go out and spend the day shopping and exploring... Nonetheless, mental health days are something that I, one hundred percent, back and completely, wholeheartedly, advocate for.

As an adult, I know first-hand that there are days where you feel like the whole world is on your shoulders, and you just need a day. A day to knock some of the things off that never ending list and to take the edge off. I am not one that has ever taken more time off then necessary, and I can see where mental health days can easily be used and abused, but if you find yourself at the edge of the cliff, take the day babe. Call off, take the day off, whatever it takes and put your health and mental health first.

For me, I like to have a plan, am I going to spend the day in bed or am I going to get shit done and declutter my mind and home. When you take a mental health day, it is important that you look deep inside that brain of yours and determine how you want to spend the day. Do you want to spend the day in bed, which almost always sounds amazing, or will you regret it when 7PM hits and you haven't done a damn thing? For me, I don’t feel nearly as bad missing when I have some type of structure for the day ahead. I also don't take days off that I know are big for my employer or a class that will make me feel entirely too far behind missing. Pick a day when you know what is missed, can easily made up. Making a plan can help you get the most out of each and every day, including mental health days.

Productivity is so important for day-to-day life and when you take a mental health day, that can either make or break you. If you've injected an extra 6 hours into your day, then you can use some of that to make headway on things that need to be completed later on in the week. Missing a day of work or school and make the following days feel ever so daunting, but devoting time to keep you levelheaded throughout the remained of the week will help to minimize the stress that will be endured. Your later self will thank you, promise.

It's your day. Similarly, to your birthday, it's all about you, girlfriend. Take some time for yourself. If you love writing, then go sit with pen and paper and let it flow. Read the magazine you bought at the checkout line last week while you take use of the face mask you received last Christmas. Take a nap and catch up on some much-needed sleep, whatever you need to do, do it. Make sure you are taking full advantage of your self-care day. Eat three meals that you enjoy and treat your mind and body, right.

It can be so hard not to bask in the guilt off missing things, especially when you know of the potential effects of your absence, but the day is needed, and you should never feel bad about taking time to recenter yourself.

When is the last time you took a mental-health day??

Are you a rest and relax type of gal or get out and about gal?

XO,

Kelleen
