To My Kindergartener... Part 2
To my sweet Hudson, on your first day of Kindergarten-

My sweet boy,
Somehow... The day we've been talking about for months is finally here.
You're starting kindergarten. And if I'm being honest... I think I'm the one who's less prepared. Last year wasn't easy. There were tears. There were mornings when saying goodbye felt bigger than either of us expected. There were days I questioned whether we were doing the right thing.... And then... Slowly...
You found your footing. You found your courage. You found your smile. This year feels different.
Not because I don't worry. I'll probably always worry. That's part of loving you. But this year, I know something I didn't know before.
You can do hard things. I've watched you do them.
You've taught me that bravery doesn't always look loud. Sometimes bravery looks like wiping your tears... Taking one deep breath... And walking through the classroom door anyway.
Oh Porkie..
You have no idea how proud I already am of you. Not because you're starting kindergarten, but because of the person you've become and are becoming. You are kind. The kind of kind that can't be taught. You notice when someone is sitting alone. You cheer for other people. You give the biggest hugs (once you've warmed up, of course). You make people feel important.
Don't ever lose that.
I hope this year fills your little heart with confidence. I pray your teacher sees what I see.
A boy with a huge imagination. A tender heart. A contagious laugh. And so much love to give. I hope you make friends who appreciate exactly who you are. I hope you ask a million questions. I hope you get messy: color outside the lines, get paint on your pants that I'll spend the evening cleaning, eat green eggs and ham and have stained green teeth for the rest of the day. I hope you find joy in the little things — the sound of the playground, the smell of crayons, the stories your teacher reads aloud. I hope you laugh until your belly hurts. And come home every afternoon with stories you can't wait to tell me.
I know there will be hard days, because every school year has them. But I also know something else-
Home will always be your safe place.
No matter what kind of day you had... You'll always have me. Always!!
So go learn.
Go play.
Go discover just how amazing you are.
I'll be right here...
Cheering you on from the other end of the hallway.
I love you more than words can ever say,
Mom 🤍
