Miller Family: Motocross Accident

On Saturday, February 3rd, what started as a day to their favorite dirt bike track, ended abruptly, with a trip to Orange Park Hospital, in Trauma 2.

It was a monumental day, as it was Hudson’s first day on the track, on his own! Finley was riding SO SO well and Hudson was conquering his fears (which we were shocked to learn he even had to begin with- haha!) We were accompanied by our besties and had a day full of riding in our future…

UNTIL Robert (the main bread winner and financial supporter) cross rutted on a jump and ended up being down.

Robert was quickly admitted to the ER as a listed, Trauma 2.

After 11 hours in the ER, it was determined that, he had broken his right clavicle, split down the middle (surgery is on the table, there is a follow up with the surgeon, scheduled, for the end of February) and his scapula (shoulder blade). On his right side, the first 2 ribs, in the front, are broken. And ribs 3-5, are broken in the front, back and interior. His lung is currently detached and dropped being slightly collapsed.

After being admitted to the trauma floor, our main man was released and sent home, healing slowly, and enduring an astronomical amount of pain!

As we navigate the next 6/8/12 weeks, we ask for prayers for healing, for Robert, and prayers for our family as we navigate the financial stressors, we are sure to face!

Being that life is full of Murphy’s Law, the Miller family had forgone, marketplace insurance for their family, as it is not something available to them otherwise. Robert is an autobody technician and being that the whole upper part of his right side, is broken, he is unable to work until he is fully healed.

The surgeon predicted that the full healing process would take anywhere from 8 – 12 weeks, being that both the clavicle and scapula are broken. Plate fixation, for the clavicle fracture is something that will be further discussed during Robert’s follow up in two weeks. The operation is performed under a combination of general and regional anesthesia. The fracture is exposed, the bone fragments realigned and then fixed with a plate and screws. The surgery does not make the healing process shorter, but helps to keep the clavicle supported, while both the clavicle and scapula heal.

There was a meeting between Robert and his employer, where they told him that they would hold his job until he is fully healed, but as a business owner, they had to hire someone to fill his current position. Due to the commission nature of Robert’s employment, the Miller family is without his income until he is able to return to work, in 8 – 12 weeks. Kelleen is a per diem substitute teacher and has continued to work as often as she is able, but due to the nature of the work and the pay, they are barely scraping by.

Any donations to the Miller Family, will go towards their mortgage and monthly bills while Robert is recovering. Anything left will be put towards the astronomical medical bills they are faced with, after a day in the ER, admittance to the Trauma floor, imaging fees, doctor fees, and doctor visits to come.

*An update will be made once surgery is scheduled. (https://www.paypal.com/pools/c/91RfDkiacG )

As we navigate the next 6/8/12 weeks, we ask for prayers for healing, for Robert, and prayers for our family as we navigate the financial stressors, we are sure to face!

At the end of the day, we are blessed with the very best friends and family who have helped us in ways we could only pray for!!

XO, Kelleen
